How do I fix the brake light on my '98 Stratus?

To give the history here... I learned my right tail light (inner brake light) was out. I checked the number of bulb I needed, bought it, and replaced it. Nothing: the light is still out. I messed around with it a little, switched the bulb for the brake light with the one for the turn signal (it had a different number on it; I wondered if the parts book gave me the wrong number), but still no tail light. And now no turn signal either! Frustrating.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking it might be the circuit board; when I was changing the bulb in the first place, it looked like no one had touched the tail light assembly in eons - the access to the bulb wouldn't turn, and I had to use a screwdriver to pry it loose. And I had to do the same thing with the turn signal bulb. So maybe I bollixed up the circuit board? The other two lights in the assembly work (the outer brake light and the backup light).

Two questions here, really:

1 - Is the circuit board the most likely culprit. or if not what is?

2 - How difficult is it to change the circuit board myself? (Or to do whatever repair is necessary?)

Thank you!How do I fix the brake light on my %26039;98 Stratus?
Check the fuse first (the left and right stop lights are on different fuses for safety reasons).

Replace the bulbs as they were before - being different, the contacts do not mate.

1 - I hope not - even if it cracked, the conductor part, being thin and flexible, usually resists some time.

2 - depends on the car and your experience. Before doing it, check the board circuitry for continuity. It is usually fixed with self-tapping screws or similar fasteners to the body - apart the access, shouldn't be too difficult.

3 - before assembling everything, a drop or two of WD40 on socket contact may help. And don't touch the bulbs with bare hands, they last longer.

4 - while you're at it, check the ground connection, clean and WD40 as necessary.

With a bit of luck (and skinned knuckles) you might do it.How do I fix the brake light on my %26039;98 Stratus?
I'm thinking now you might have burnt something out when you switch a brake light with a signal light of a different number.

Signal lights, usually have two filaments and two connector buttons on the bottom.

Brake lights usually have one filament and one connector button.

When you interchanged them you shorted something out and hopefully you only blew the fuse.

Should have someone who knows what they are doing look at it.

Anyone Ticketed Due to Doctored/Phony Red Light Camera Photograph/Video? (My situation occurred in San Diego)?

In San Diego's Mission Valley area, I was driving south on Mission Center Road on a weekday mid-afternoon, when I entered the red light camera intersection at Camino Del Rio North. The light was YELLOW. My eye was on the light the entire time. I entered on a yellow, and it was not until I was HALFWAY through the intersection that it changed to red, and then the camera lights flashed.

Now I have a near $500 ticket, and a charge that the light was red to begin with. Moreover, one of the photographs with the ticket shows the light as red prior to my entering the intersection, and the video shows the same thing. BOTH ARE WRONG. They do NOT reflect what actually happened. Right after the cameras flashed, I took out a pad and pen, and at the next intersection (just seconds later) I wrote down what had happened. I did not wait to get the ticket to try to think back about the event.

We all know that the motivation for having these red light cameras is revenue. Cities like San Diego want to pull in money, period. (If installing cameras had anything to do with ensuring that people obey the law, then there would be cameras in the offices, boardrooms, and back alleys at every governmental unit in the country). Of course, people going through red lights can cause accidents, even fatal ones, and I am NOT in support of people doing that. But the fact is that my light was YELLOW, and, as I said, I had my eye on it the entire time.

Please spare me any lecturing on stopping at yellow lights. If safe to do so, I usually do. But in this case, even though I was not speeding, I made the split-second decision to pass through, and was able to do so safely. (Also, sudden breaking can cause rear-end collisions).

According to printed information from San Diego Police and City of San Diego Traffic Violations Bureau, %26quot;You will only receive a red light photo citation if you enter the intersection after the signal turns red. If you find yourself 'trapped' in the intersection while the signal turns from yellow to red, you will not get a citation%26quot;. Well, that may be how things are supposed to work. But it is NOT what happened in my case.

Can photographs and video, even for something like this, be doctored? Of course. It is very easy for even amateurs to do. Does the city (San Diego) and/or the company (American Traffic Solutions) that owns these cameras have motive to do something fishy? Of course. Even if the company receives a flat rate for these ticket systems, it still wants its client (City of San Diego) to profit, and the City obviously wants to profit by extorting from drivers. The City counts on people being intimidated by the threatening nature of the documentation that it sends to an accused driver. Most drivers probably just pay the ticket fee.

So I am wondering if anybody has had a similar problem of a ticket issued by a red light camera when entering on a yellow light. (Even other red light camera experiences may be informative). I would appreciate any relevant information that you can offer.

Also, if anyone (especially in San Diego) has gone to court to fight such a ticket, what should I expect when I do so? Should I anticipate that someone from the City will be sent to represent its side? Are judges for this kind of thing willing to budge? Or do they just accept whatever the city/police/photographs/video say?

My chance to win this may be slim. But I refuse to give in without fighting it. If everyone fought these phony camera systems, the abuses of innocent drivers might cease. I have not had a moving violation in more than 12 years, and then it was for a burnt out tail light. Otherwise, my record is clean. This has been a very stressful situation to be in. Any helpful information will be appreciated. Please, SERIOUS replies only.Anyone Ticketed Due to Doctored/Phony Red Light Camera Photograph/Video? (My situation occurred in San Diego)?
My Brother was and cost us loads with the court to get him prooven innocent..

How much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?

I have

1 headlight out

1 tail-light out

Might need brakes in the front

Might need 4 new (or used tire)

Oil change

Tune up

What exactly is a tune up? ThanksHow much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?
Headlight - $12

Taillight - $12

Front Brakes - $120-200

Tires - $250-300

Oil Change - $30

Tune up - $90

A tune up is when they change the spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, and all fluids.

In order to pass inspection you'll only need the lights, brakes, and tires fixed. Take it to an inspection station and let them tell you what needs to be fixed first...many will not check your brakes or tires. How much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?
a tune up is replacing worn parts and dirty filters and dirty oil.. the headlight is 6dollars.. taillight bulb 1 dollar front brakes 100 replacing everything two calipers two rotors ane pads. you do the laborl buy good tires no used.. four tires 60 each the premium 240for tires.. oil change do it yourself 5 dollars. tune up new plugs change air cleaner. 16dollars.. add this up and do it yourself ok.. new tires make a good impression at the inspection station..How much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?
i just had to do most of this..

i'm not sure on pricing where you live

but my headlight was 8 dollars

not sure about the tail light =/

front brakes were around 20 dollars

my tires were used and still 200 dollars

oil change around 25 35 with changing the air filter (which did wonders for gas milleage)

and tune-up was 100 dollars.

i also didn't pay any labor or at all.

good luck

How do I mend the right side brake light on my 2003 Ford Focus?

The tail lights work on both sides, but the right side brake light doesn't work. I've tried replacing the bulb, but that doesn't work. In fact, putting a new bulb in causes the tail light to stop working too. I put the old bulb back in and the tail light works again. Both the old and new bulbs are the same. Same part number, same voltage, same wattage.

I've checked the relevant fuse, and that's fine. I've replaced it just in case and no change.

Very confused as to why the new bulb stops the tail light working! Please help if you can.How do I mend the right side brake light on my 2003 Ford Focus?
Sounds like a dead earth problem, they are common of fords across the full range of cars. The connectors used to wire the lights are not very good and any moisture that enters the connector block will cause corrosion and dead shorts.

What you need to do is remove the connectors, clean the male parts with sand paper. The female half's need to be checked to make sure they are making a good connection and are not bent out of alignment.

brake lights are 1157 bulbs, tail lights are 1156 bulbs. could be a bad ground wire or bad socket. How do I mend the right side brake light on my 2003 Ford Focus?
Check that you have the correct bulb again.

It should have two filaments in it and two lead contact points on its base.

If you have a single filament bulb then brake and tail light will not work. How do I mend the right side brake light on my 2003 Ford Focus?

How do i remove the passenger?

rear light cluster on a mk 6 fiesta? to change a stop/tail bulb. on usual cars the lenses come off to change the bulbs. ( no handbook)How do i remove the passenger?
Open the tailgate and look down the side of the light. You should see two screws which you need to remove. On the outside of the light where it meets the quarter panel are two push in clips. You will need something wide and flat for the next bit. About three inches down from the top, lever the light away from the car backwards. It should pop out. Now do the same at the bottom of the light about three inches up. Hey presto the light should now be free. Take the back off and do your bulbs. Just be a bit careful as it is possible to break the lense. You now owe me a fiver which i will expect by return post. How do i remove the passenger?
You do not have to take the lens cover off to change any of the bulbs in the rear light cluster. You replace the bulbs by taking the cover off the rear of the cluster, which should be easily accessible when you open the tailgate. How do i remove the passenger?
May I suggest using your supersonic screw driver thingy! maybe you unscrew the unit from inside the car! My 928 lights are accessible in this manner! I'm sure I've seen you before? Which doctor?

  • Anyway to change the look of your car's lights?

For the fun, I want to give a car a new look. I was thinking of taking a Datsun 1400 like this http://mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B2

Now, I want to know if there is a way to change the look of the car's lights. Maybe give it a look similar that of a cadillac?

    I like the tail lights:

If I take it to someone... do you think there will be a way to try and get this on the car some way?

Or have any ideas on how I can make the lights look funky? (The front/head lights and the back ones).

Yes, and I mean yes there's a way to do anything to a car if you want to pay for it.

Since I don't know what car you're thinking about modifying I can't even take an educated guess at how much it will cost.

If the Datsun headlights would fit in your current headlight bucket you could install it for about $500 to $1,000.

For the tail lights you're talking about major modifications for any car. Probably around $4,000 - $7,000 for quality work.Anyway to change the look of your car%26039;s lights?
First measure. Then make sure it works visually.

Then cut, weld, connect, fill, sand and paint.

Good luck. P.S. You are gorgeous!

How do you get your traffic fine reduced or removed in court?

My husband was pulled over by a state trooper because his tail light was out He was actually headed to Jiffy Lube to get an oil change where they would have fixed it anyways. The fine is $200. He is planning on fighting it in court-what should he expect? Any advice is appreciated! How do you get your traffic fine reduced or removed in court?
Fix it tickets do not have fines attached unless the violation is not fixed. There's more to this story. How do you get your traffic fine reduced or removed in court?
Boy, there sure is something you are leaving out. If it was a simple tail light out, there would be no charge for the fix it ticket once he got the light replaced and had the ticket signed off by a police officer. How do you get your traffic fine reduced or removed in court?
Not sure what state you are in, but in New York, all I had to do when I got stopped for a tail light was get it fixed, take the receipt and go to the town hall of the town where the ticket was issued and prove I fixed the light----the ticket was expunged...no fine... $200 for a tail light ONLY is a really outrageous fine.... I've never EVER heard of such a thing and I've been driving for over 40 YEARS!!!!!! I got stopped once for a broken HEADLIGHT as well and same thing... prove I got it fixed and the case was tossed.
